Recently, we customized a batch of lap desks for a client from the USA. This client is a visual product brand, mainly selling glasses and magnifying glasses and also selling some lamps and other lighting products. But his brand’s products are too single, so he sells some small office furniture as a dealer. So he approached us to order a batch of lap desks.
Understand Client’s Needs
We sent him the product catalog of the company’s lap desk and recommended several hot-selling products to him, and the client chose one of them and ordered a sample from us. Since this lap desk is our existing finished product, the client quickly received this sample. He said he liked this product very much but decided to add his design to the current lap desk and let us customize it according to his design. He then sent us the blueprints.

Solve Problems for the Client
The client’s pillow and table size requirements are easy to achieve, but reaching the other two conditions is not easy.
The material of the pillow filling
The filling of the lap desk pillow is foam, and the client wanted styrofoam beads as the pillow’s filling. The pillow is softer but more prone to deformation when filled with styrofoam beads. Based on our many years of service experience, we better understand which material to use for fillings will be most suitable for him. We tell the client that the most important thing about a lap desk product is its regular pillow and solid desktop. Using foam as a filling for the pillow will make the lap desk more stable and bring a more comfortable and convenient experience for people to work. Since the client had no experience with the lap desk, he was more inclined to use styrofoam beads as the filling for the pillow. After our communication, he ordered two lap desk samples with different fillings and finally made a decision.
Size of the wrist pad
The client wants the lower wrist pad to be the same size as the upper card slot, but in this case, the mold needs to be reopened, and the mold opening fee is about 10,000$. We also understand that the lap desk is a new field developed by this client, so that the high mold opening fee will increase the development risk. To help clients reduce development costs and risks, we introduce another laptop desk product of the company to the client. The wrist rest part of this lap desk meets his requirements, and we suggest combining the designs of the two products so that no mold opening fee is required. After we told the client about this idea, the client also agreed.
After communicating with the client, we determined the production plan and put it into sample production. After receiving the sample, the client said that the detailed design of this lap desk fully satisfied his idea. At the same time, he was delighted that he ordered two lap desks with different fillings after we reminded him. He also found that styrofoam beads must be smoother for pillow filling. Finally, he chose foam as the pillow filling to customize the lap desk and placed a bulk order.
